Woodwind Tutors

Nikki is founder of Cornwall Music Academy and it is her love and passion for music that has inspired her to set up this teaching academy.

Nikki qualified as an instrument repairer in 2005 and since then has spent her time teaching and running local music shop SilverWinds, alongside this she has also taken several trips to Dar es Salaam - Tanzania. Where she has repaired instruments and taught local children.

Here at CMA Nikki teaches flute, clarinet and saxophone taking students through their exams including the ABRSM Jazz exams. She has also recently completed the course to become a Kindermusik educator.

Since the arrival of her son in 2011 Nikki has put her playing career on hold in order to spend more time with her family.

What Nikki says -”I love teaching music to students of all ages, I strongly believe that everyone should be given the opportunity to learn play a musical instrument”
We welcomed David to our team having moved to Cornwall, he brings with him a wealth of knowledge having spent many years as a head of music.

David's professional career has included playing keyboard in a number of west end shows to include “Rocky Horror Show”  as well as touring Ireland and Australia with well known band“Hot Chocolate”.

Teaching Clarinet, Saxophone and Piano across all ranges from Jazz, Rock, Pop and Classical he is able to teach both Classical and Jazz exam grades.

What David says - “I believe that students should be able to experience music with a structured approach, which enables inclusion for all students. It is important for students to listen to, perform and compose music in a variety of styles and genres, which will contribute toward a comprehensive musical knowledge.”
After completing his degree in Contemporary World Music Matt became a professional performer and musician playing at venues across the world, most recently supporting Basement Jaxx in London.

As an accomplished composer and arranger he has worked with some of the worlds top producers.

As one of our saxophone teachers he takes an alternative approach towards teaching, he combines all aspects of music education tailored towards each individual student.

Matt aims to make music fun and enjoyable to learn; with the ultimate goal of being able to create music either on your own or with others.

We are lucky enough to have Malcolm on our team, he is a highly experienced teacher working with many young children in primary schools across Penwith.

Malcolm teaches all brass instruments along with beginner woodwinds, he has an exceptional exam pass rate taking students through all the grades in both Jazz and Classical.

What Malcolm says - “Learning an instrument should be fun and enjoyable, I particularly enjoy teaching the younger children and inspiring them to continue their musical progression whilst having fun”

Having qualified with a PGCE in Secondary Music Hilary now teaches Flute, Clarinet, Oboe, Recorder and Piano here at CMA.

Hilary has a wealth of knowledge and is able to teach students of all ages and abilities. She often works with young children developing new ensembles and performance opportunities.

Hilary delivers structured lesson always with the element of fun whilst ensuring each student is continuing to develop their musical abilities. She is a very accomplished pianist and is able to accompany all of her students.

Hilary teaches the full range of ABRSM, Music Medals and Trinity Guildhall Grades alongside running choirs, ensembles and orchestras.
